California voters overwhelmingly rejected birth-control crusader Sandra Fluke in her bid for state Senate Tuesday, as she lost by 22 percentage points.

Ms. Fluke, who clashed with Rush Limbaugh over her campaign for free contraceptives in 2012, lost to fellow Democrat Ben Allen 61 percent to 39, with 93 percent of the precinct reporting in California’s 26th district.

Mr. Allen serves on the Santa Monica school board.

Ms. Fluke gained national attention when she testified before Congress supporting increased insurance coverage of birth control two years ago while attending law school at Georgetown University.

Following her testimony, Mr. Limbaugh called her a “slut” and said that because she wanted the government to pay for her contraception, that made her a “prostitute.”
