President Obama knows how to wash the bad taste of Tuesday’s elections out of his mouth — Kentucky bourbon.
The president said Wednesday he’s willing to sit down with incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell over a glass of bourbon and figure out ways the two sides can work together for the next two years.
Mr. Obama said he’s already spoken with Mr. McConnell, Kentucky Republican, and looks forward to hearing his ideas.
“I would enjoy having some Kentucky bourbon with Mitch McConnell,” the president said during a press conference at the White House, going on to say he’s always enjoyed a pleasant relationship with the Kentucky senator.
“My interactions with Mitch McConnell — he has always been very straightforward with me. To his credit, he has never made a promise he couldn’t deliver,” Mr. Obama said. “He knows the legislative process well. He obviously knows his caucus well. He’s always given me realistic assessments of what he can get through his caucus and what he can’t. I think we can have a productive relationship.”
Mr. McConnell and other congressional leaders will meet with the president at the White House on Friday.
