MSNBC Chris Matthews — the liberal television pundit who once famously said that President Obama’s speaking skills sent a tingle up his leg — turned an Election Day critical eye to the commander-in-chief and asked: How can he not understand the Republican wave is a commentary on his leadership?
Mr. Matthews made the query after announcing the shocking win of Republican Larry Hogan for governor in the deep Democratic territory of Maryland, The Daily Caller reported.
He turned to panelists, particularly former presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs, and asked: “How does the president not read this as a rejection of his name, of his party, of his agenda? How does he not read that?”
Mr. Gibbs said the press conferences coming from the White House in coming days were sure to prove “interesting,” The Daily Caller reported.
Mr. Matthews also referred to Sen. Rand Paul’s previous comments about the Republican brand and quipped: The GOP brand “doesn’t look like it sucks tonight,” he said, The Daily Caller reported.
