House Speaker John Boehner said Republicans will take the momentous win from the voters and rise to the massive responsibility given to lawmakers to bring about long-delayed reforms.
“We are humbled by the responsibility the American people have placed with us, but this is not a time for celebration,” he said in a statement reported by Townhall. “It’s time for government to start getting results and implementing solutions to the challenges facing our country, starting with our still-struggling economy.”
He said the new Congress would make it a priority to implement “common-sense jobs and energy” measures — the very same that passed through the House but stalled in the Senate, under Majority Leader Harry Reid’s leadership.
“Republicans have made these our priorities by listening to the people we take an oath to serve,” he said, Townhall reported. “Our proposals provide an opportunity for President Obama to begin the last two years of his presidency by taking some bipartisan steps toward a stronger economy. We hope he’ll work with us.”
