The hits to Alison Lundergan Grimes just keep on coming. Not only did she lose to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in her Senate bid by a wide margin, but shortly after, those of her own political ilk took to the national airwaves to slam her concession speech, characterizing her as anything but gracious.
“That wasn’t your usual concession speech,” said MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Mediaite reported. “Usually you congratulate the winner. You say something gracious. You move on. You unify the state to some extent. It was a partisan speech.”
Mr. Matthews summed by saying on MSNBC, “Fair enough — it’s her call.” But his criticisms were shared by fellow panelists.
“It wasn’t a concession speech,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton, Mediaite reported. “Usually you concede. I mean, I think that again, you need to be gracious. You can represent what you represent, but you respect the winner and you pledge to move on together.”
Mr. Sharpton also suggested Ms. Grimes’ loss was due at least in part to her failure to say whether or not she actually voted for President Obama in a previous interview, The Daily Caller reported.
Meanwhile, Rachel Maddow suggested Ms. Grimes may have been “shell-shocked” by how badly she lost — and therefore, could not offer up a proper concession speech.
