A mailman in Wisconsin is facing a formal investigation over allegations that he dumped hundreds of letters and fliers touting support for Republican candidates into the trash, rather than delivering them.

The Wisconsin Reporter said the mailman dumped a total of 879 pieces of deemed “political mail,” all of which seemed to support Republican candidates.

Mike Rorhkaste, a Republican candidate running for a seat in the state’s 55th district, said a Neenah resident alerted him to the alleged dumping, and that a U.S. Postal Service supervisor responded to the scene within a half hour, The Blaze reported.

“She took a number of pictures,” Mr. Rorhkaste said in the Wisconsin Reporter. “She actually got into the Dumpster.”

A special agent with the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General in Chicago said it didn’t appear that the mailman was actually trying to sabotage the GOP, but rather than he was just “overwhelmed,” the Wisconsin Reporter said.

“A lot of time, what happened in this situation, you have a carrier who felt overwhelmed with the volume of mail so they decided to discard some of the mail without delivering,” Special Agent Robert Rukes said in the news outlet. “Based upon our investigation, this was nothing down toward a specific candidate or party. It looks like it was a decision made by the carrier, and it was not a good decision.”

The fliers were taken out of the bin and delivered, The Blaze reported.
