Top Democrats acknowledged Tuesday night that it will be a difficult night for the party, but said they would continue to knock on doors and make phone calls until the final polls close.
“It’s a difficult night. We can’t predict what will happen,” Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, said from Democratic National Committee.
Greg Jackson, national field director for the DNC, said volunteers have knocked on 500,000 doors and made 500,000 calls today alone. Throughout the cycle, volunteers have attempted to contact about 41 million voters — more than double the contact attempts in 2010.
“We know it’s a tough environment and there’s a lot of challenges out there, but we are really excited to see such an energized grassroots movement and volunteers all over the country leading the charge,” Mr. Jackson said.
He said volunteers continued to reach voters today even in tough weather in Illinois, Arkansas and parts of Texas.
Ms. Pelosi thanked all the volunteers for their dedication, saying that each phone call they make gets Democratic candidates one step closer to victory.

“We believe that our volunteers are more valuable than wealthy special interest money because right now we are getting out the vote and that’s what counts,” she said.
