Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney hardly minced words when he responded to a White House claim that the Democrats would keep the Senate, scoffing up a blunt reply on Fox News: No, they’re not, he said.

“They’re gonna lose big time,” Mr. Romney said, The Hill reported.

His statement came in reply to one made by presidential press secretary Josh Earnest, who told reporters that despite polls — despite pundit commentary and expert analysis — the Democrats would keep control of the Senate. Mr. Earnest’s source? He said he agreed with Vice President Joseph R. Biden, who made the same claim earlier in the day.

Mr. Earnest said both he and Mr. Biden shared the confidence of knowing their voters wanted to support “a candidate who is fighting for policies that benefit middle-class families,” The Hill reported.

Mr. Romney, however, saw differently.

“I don’t think that we’re gonna pick up a lot of seats,” he said, The Hill reported. And, he continued, adding even a few seats to the Senate would send a strong message the Democrats’ way — that Americans were displaying a “complete rejection of the Obama administration’s agenda,” he said, The Hill reported.
