Students enrolled in Musa al-Gharbi’s classes at University of Arizona can expect to hear that the U.S. military is more of a threat to world peace than the Islamic State group.

Mr. al-Gharbi recently wrote a piece for the website TruthOut stating that American military personnel posed “a greater threat” than the Sunni radical terror group currently controlling large swathes of Iraq and Syria.

“It would not be a stretch to say that the United States is actually a greater threat to peace and stability in the region than ISIS — not least because U.S. policies in Iraq, Libya and Syria have largely paved the way for ISIS’ emergence as a major regional actor,” he wrote for the website, Fox News reported Tuesday.

The professor’s piece — “How Much Moral High Ground Does the U.S. Have Over ISIS?” — also contends the U.S. military is “heavily infiltrated by white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and other hate groups.”

The Washington Free Beacon was able to get the professor to explain his comments on Monday as an attempt to “render U.S. policy more effective efficient, and beneficent. … I do this work out of my commitment to challenge America to grow better and stronger.”

Mr. al-Gharbi works for the University of Arizona’s Southwest Initiative for the Study of Middle East. He has also written for Al-Jazeera.
