Government requests for Facebook users’ data jumped almost 25 percent in the first six months of 2014 compared to the last half of 2013, the company said Tuesday.
“We’re aggressively pursuing an appeal to a higher court to invalidate these sweeping warrants and to force the government to return the data it has seized,” Facebook Deputy General Counsel Chris Sonderby said in a statement the company’s official blog Tuesday.
Facebook said that 34,946 requests have been made by worldwide governments for its users’ content.
Mark Zuckerberg’s social media giant was not alone in the uptick of government requests for data. Google Inc. reported in September a 15 percent sequential increase in the number of government requests in the first half of this year, Reuters reported.
