Incumbent Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is getting some last-minute help from former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in her race against Republican Scott Brown.
Mrs. Clinton, speaking in New Hampshire Sunday, recalled fondly when Granite State voters handed her a surprise win in the 2008 Democratic primary, giving her campaign a major shot in the arm at the time.
“In 2008, during the darkest days of my campaign, you lifted me up, you gave me my voice back, and you taught me so much about grit and determination, and I will never forget that,” she said, according to the Union Leader.
And in a new radio ad, Mr. Clinton touts Ms. Shaheen as “the real deal.”
The last-minute boosts are part of a frenetic campaign schedule this cycle for the Clintons. They have emerged as top Democratic surrogates with President Obama sidelined in many contests involving Democratic Senate candidates running in red or purple states.
Mrs. Clinton has made 45 appearances on behalf of Democrats in the last two months, and Mr. Clinton returned to his home state of Arkansas once again over the weekend to try to spur on Democratic voters to the polls there.
Arkansas voters, though, appear poised to elect Republicans in both the governor’s race between Republican Asa Hutchinson and Democrat Mike Ross and and the U.S. Senate contest between incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor and GOP Rep. Tom Cotton.
