Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz took the lone wolf approach to speaking about Election Day during a televised interview, telling the nation-at-large that despite what polls, Republican pundits and even liberal leaders say, the Senate will keep its political status quo.
“I think we’re going to hold the Senate,” she said, during an interview on “This Week” on ABC. “We have a ground game that I know [the GOP] would take over theirs any day of the week.”
Her statements are somewhat of a surprise, given recent polls hand control of the Republican Party — and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi just sent out a fundraising mailer declaring Election Day a “catastrophe” for Democrats if supporters don’t hurry and up their antes into the campaign pot.
Former White House press secretary Jay Carney has also recently made waves by saying on a couple of occasions that Election Day was boding to be a bad one for Democrats.
But Ms. Wasserman Schultz stood strong in her stance during the Sunday interview, saying that her party’s advantages are by and large “superior to the ones that Republicans have,” she said, The Hill reported. She was referring to presence of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joseph R. Biden taking to the campaign trail for certain party candidates.
Her GOP counterpart, Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus, disagreed with her assessment.
“Our ground game is whipping their ground game,” he said, The Hill reported. “We’re going to have a great night.”
