New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has sparred frequently with Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, let it be known Sunday that there’s certainly no love lost between himself and “Marty.”
“I mean, don’t you just love it,” Mr. Christie said at a Sunday evening rally for Larry Hogan, the GOP’s nominee for governor this year. “Big, bad Marty O’Malley. Big, big taxing Marty O’Malley. Big spending Marty O’Malley. And in two days, big loser Marty O’Malley.”
Mr. O’Malley is not on the ballot, but his lieutenant governor, Anthony Brown, is running against Mr. Hogan and some see the Republican within striking distance in the deep blue state.
Mr. O’Malley, a former chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, has spent years exchanging verbal insults with Mr. Christie, the current chairman of the Republican Governors Association. Mr. O’Malley has said he’s openly pondering a run for president in 2016, and Mr. Christie could be in the mix on the Republican side.
In response to Mr. Christie, an O’Malley spokeswoman told The Washington Post that Maryland voters will decide the election based on results, not “bizarre taunts.”
