ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Just because Thanksgiving is over doesn’t mean police in New York state are ending their stepped-up holiday enforcement.
The New York State Police say motorists can expect extra patrols around the state through Sunday. Authorities say the officers will be cracking down on speeders and impaired and distracted drivers in particular.
State Police say the holiday traffic enforcement campaign will feature sobriety checkpoints and unmarked cars.
Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Police say that during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday, troopers made 181 drunken driving arrests, issued more than 4,400 speeding tickets and 854 distracted driving tickets.
