Two New York boys — ages 9 and 11 — who went out to play in the snow were buried for hours when a plow inadvertently dumped mounds on top of them.

Parents and police kicked off a search but didn’t find them. Hours later, officials at a nearby health center saw a shovel half-buried in a mound of snow in the parking lot and went to investigate. After a little digging, they uncovered a boot — and then the two boys, The Associated Press reported.

Both boys were conscious, but near-frozen. They were taken to the hospital for treatment and are expected to survive, but the severity of their conditions aren’t yet known, AP said.

The incident happened at a parking lot in Newburgh, about 60 miles north of New York City, while the boys were trying to construct a snow fort.
