A Beijing clothing store has reportedly drawn the ire of locals with a sign posted on its front door that reads, “Chinese not admitted, except for staff.”

The reason for the sign is to keep out Chinese shoppers deemed as “too annoying” by retail staff.

“We didn’t want to hang up the sign in the first place and lead people to think we Chinese look down upon ourselves,” a salesperson at the store told the Beijing Youth Daily. “But some Chinese customers are too annoying.”

Store employees charge that Chinese women “often try on lots of clothes but end up buying nothing.”

Despite calls for the shop to be closed, the policy will likely stay because there are no laws against racial discrimination in China, a legal expert told the Beijing Youth Daily.
