ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is hoping to cash in on China’s growing middle class by attracting more tourists from the world’s most populous nation.
The state this month approved a $750,000 contract with a travel marketing firm to represent the state in China.
The move comes after the state established a tourism office in China with representatives in four cities. This summer hospitality officials held a series of workshops for upstate destinations looking to looking to lure Chinese tourists.
Earlier this month the U.S. and China announced a change in visa restrictions to allow Chinese travelers to enter the country multiple times over a 10-year period. Previously Chinese visitors were limited to a one-year visa.
