A suspected Russian spy is fighting attempts by Polish authorities to deport him.
Journalist Leonid Sviridov of Russia’s Rossiya Segodnya news was informed by Poland’s Foreign Ministry in October that he is no longer allowed to work in the country. He claims that he has not been shown any evidence to support charges of spying for Russia.
The process for Mr. Sviridov’s deportation began shortly after Poland arrested an officer in its army and a lawyer they believe were spying for Moscow.
“I don’t know them and I had never heard about them before. This situation for me is tragic. I don’t have anywhere to go and I will be starting over from zero,” told reporters, The Associated Press reported Wednesday.
Mr. Sviridov, who has lived in Poland for 17 years, was also reportedly denied the right to work in the Czech Republic in 2006 on allegations of espionage, AP reported.
A decision on his deportation is expected to come before the end of the year.
