Michael Bloomberg — dubbed the “Nanny of New York” for his many regulatory attempts to control the health and activities of city dwellers — has now issued some talking points for the Thanksgiving table: Discuss gun control.
Among his advisements, via the pamphlet “Everytown for Gun Safety Thanksgiving”: “This Thanksgiving, when talk around the table turns to politics and current events, you can help set the record straight on some of the most common myths about guns.”
The pamphlet suggests that dinner discussion include mention of these statements: “Hiding your guns will not keep them safe from kids,” and “Women are five times more likely to be killed when an intimate partner has a firearm.”
Other tidbits listed by the pamphlet as potential talking points: “The NRA wants anyone, everywhere to have a gun. Without a background check,” and “Guns don’t stop crime, otherwise America would be the safest country in the nation.”
Gun expert John Lott said that the pamphlet is little more than propaganda.
“Horrible errors in these claims,” he told a gun advocacy website.
Mr. Bloomberg’s attempt to push politics into the personal lives of Americans is hardly new. As mayor of New York City, he pressed citizens to ride more bicycles, opt for stairs over elevators, quit smoking cigarettes, quit drinking super-size sodas and stop using Styrofoam in order to save the environment.
