King Abdullah II of Jordan, a key strategic partner in the Obama administration’s efforts to fight militants of the Islamic State, will visit the White House on Dec. 5.
The White House said Wednesday that President Obama will host the king “to consult on regional issues, including efforts to counter [the Islamic State] and find a political solution in Syria, provide humanitarian assistance to refugees from the conflicts in Iraq and Syria, and take steps to calm tensions in Jerusalem.”
Jordan has participated in the administration’s military coalition to counter the Islamic State’s gains in Syria and in Iraq with air strikes. The country also has been inundated with refugees from the Syrian civil war.
