Fred Smoot, a cornerback who recently wrapped an NFL career with the Washington Redskins, was just arrested on a domestic violence charge.

Police say he beat up a female — and the alleged victim has actually posted photos on social media sites that show cuts to her upper lip, as well as bruises to her arm, TMZ reported.

She claims the injuries are due to Mr. Smoot’s actions, and that she’s seeking a restraining order against him, the entertainment news site reported.

Mr. Smoot was arraigned on Tuesday and released with a $2,500 bond, officials said to TMZ Sports.

CBS News reported the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the allegations on Sunday and responded to a residence in Ashburn, Va., where officers took Mr. Smoot, 35, into custody without incident. He was charged with misdemeanor domestic simple assault.

The former footballer contributes to several sports broadcasts in the Washington area.

“Smoot’s appearances have been suspended at this time,” said WJFK-FM program director Chris Kinard, in CBS News.
