A former National Enquirer reporter claims Bill Cosby leaked a story to the publication in 1989 about his daughter’s drug abuse as a trade for a story they were holding about an alleged sex scandal involving the comedian.

The unnamed reporter told the New York Post that the Enquirer had a “solid story” that summer about Mr. Cosby “swinging with Sammy Davis Jr. and some showgirls in Las Vegas.”

When the Enquirer contacted Mr. Cosby for comment, he allegedly handed them a story about his then-23-year-old daughter Erinn’s battle with drug and alcohol abuse as a trade, The Post reported.

“My editor told me that daddy Cosby was the source. He ratted out his flesh and blood,” the source said.

Mr. Cosby was quoted in the flattering story as saying, “Deep down inside, she knows we love her,” the Post reported.

It is unclear whether the Enquirer ever ran the Sammy Davis Jr. article.
