As former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush ponders a possible presidential run in 2016, he’ll get to spend some time in the early primary state of South Carolina next month as the speaker at the University of South Carolina’s winter commencement exercises on Dec. 15.

Mr. Bush will also receive an honorary degree of doctor of public service, the university announced Monday.

Mr. Bush’s father, President George H.W. Bush, addressed graduates at the university and received an honorary degree of doctor of laws in May 1990. And his brother, President George W. Bush, spoke and received an honorary degree of doctor of laws at the school’s May 2003 commencement.

Mr. Bush’s brother, the 43rd president, has said recently he hopes his brother Jeb will run for president. A recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll found that the former Florida governor is better known than other possible GOP contenders in 2016, but his last name and comparatively moderate positions on issues like immigration and education could hurt him with Republican primary voters.
