Google is facing fire over a game, which it allowed users to access on its app store and download, that calls on players to shoot and kill naked homosexuals.
Google has removed the game from its app store — but not until it was downloaded 10,000-plus times, the Daily Mail reported.
The app said that “your mission is to kill as many gays as possible” to advance to the next level. Players would hunt naked gay men and shoot them with shotguns to win points, the Daily Mail said.
Within the game description was this text: “Gays may be hidden in bushes and unexpectedly catch you. Remember! When they catch you they will do with you whatever they want,” the Daily Mail said.
Internet users were outraged and petitioned for the app’s removal.
“This developer is despicable,” wrote one, the Daily Mail reported. “I cannot comprehend how someone could create a ’game’ so willfully ignorant, hateful, vile and violen[t].”
And another: “Do you realize that young gay men and women are attacked all the time and your game could be the incentive for someone to act on their ignorance? Normalizing violence is never OK. By creating and publishing this ’game,’ you’re sending the message that you condone such violence,” the Daily Mail reported.
The tech giant didn’t comment on its removal of the app.
