Prosecutors in St. Louis County are expected to make public today the grand jury’s decision on whether to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.

Officer Wilson shot and killed unarmed teen Michael Brown in August, touching off violent, racially-charged protests.

The St. Louis County prosecutor is expected to announce the grand jury’s finding early this evening.

Mr. Brown’s family was informed of the jury’s decision earlier Monday, officials close to the case said.

The deliberations were likely contentious due to the nature of the case, said Ron Hosko, former FBI assistant director.

“I would suspect strongly that all the grand juries are not of a like mind on these things,” said Mr. Hosko, who now serves as the president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund.

The prosecutor’s office did not announce yet whether they would release the information, evidence, and documents in the case, but Mr. Hosko said it seems like only a matter of time before the information is public.

“Because of all the attention on it, the likelihood is that there will need to be a fair amount of transparency,” he said. “Almost inevitably one or more grand jurors will self-identify and want to tell the story, or sell the story.”
