PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is urging holiday travelers to play it safe on Thanksgiving.

Daugaard says people need to be move “safety-conscious” during this time of the year as traffic is heavier than usual and South Dakota’s weather can change quickly.

Two people died on South Dakota highways last Thanksgiving and 39 others were injured in crashes. The state has recorded an average of nearly 210 highway crashes in each of the last four Thanksgiving holiday travel periods.

Daugaard is encouraging travelers to make sure they’ve a sober driver behind the wheel during every trip.
