Jordan authorities have arrested a senior-level member of the Muslim Brotherhood — Deputy Secretary-general Zake Bani Irsheid — because he wrote an op-ed piece that criticized the United Arab Emirates.
A spokesman for Jordan’s opposition government, Murad Adaileh, said Mr. Irsheid was taken into custody and put in jail, pending a more in-depth investigation into his op-ed, The Associated Press reported.
The op-ed criticized the UAE for designating the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, AP said.
Jordan has been cracking down on opposition groups, including the Islamic Action Front that Mr. Irsheid reportedly heads up, AP said.
