LANCASTER, N.Y. (AP) - One of the western New York communities hit hardest by the massive lake-effect snow storm has lifted its driving ban, but travel restrictions remain in place for most municipalities in the Buffalo area.
The village of Lancaster, just east of Buffalo, ended its state of emergency Friday morning, along with driving and parking bans.
But travel bans remain in effect in the surrounding town of Lancaster, as well as in South Buffalo and about two dozen other villages, towns and cities.
Erie County officials say the only vehicles that are allowed to travel during the ban are those driven by emergency personnel.
Lancaster received more than 5 feet of snow during the storms that started Monday, while other areas around Buffalo are buried under more than 7 feet of snow.
