The CIA will undergo an internal review to assess if its organized in a way to best handle the “ever-growing number” of national security threats facing the nation.
The agency released unclassified portions of a letter sent to staff by Director John Brennan on Thursday.
“I have mentioned several times over the past year that I have become increasingly convinced that the time has come to take a fresh look at how we are organized as an Agency,” Brennan wrote in the letter dated Sept. 24, 2014, CNN reported Thursday.
Mr. Brennan added that it was time the agency took a “close and honest look” at how it was conducting business.
One of the issues likely to be addressed is whether or not the agency will be restructured into subject matter divisions where analysts and clandestine officers work together, the network reported.
“Given that the review is still pending, the officers have not yet put forth their findings, conclusions or recommendations,” CIA spokesman Dean Boyd told CNN.
