Trent Williams was held out of the Washington Redskins’ practice on Wednesday afternoon as he continues to recover from injuries in his right leg sustained Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Williams, who sprained the MCL in his right knee and also sprained his right ankle, was on the field for only seven snaps in the Redskins’ 27-7 defeat. During the 20-minute portion of practice open to reporters Wednesday, Williams watched from the side in a sweatshirt and sweatpants and did not take part in any kind of conditioning workout.
“It’s not as positive as I have been, but we’ll see,” said Williams, who was replaced by rookie Morgan Moses. “I’m not going to rule myself out.”
Williams has battled several injuries during parts of five seasons, but hasn’t missed a game because of one since 2011, when he sprained the MCL in his left knee.
“I want to play,” he said. “I always want to play. But you’ve got to take care of your health first. So, we’ll see, man. Like I said, I’m not ruling myself out. But it’s going to be tough.”
Also missing practice Wednesday for the Redskins were left guard Shawn Lauvao, who is still recovering from a concussion sustained Sunday; tight end Jordan Reed, who strained his right hamstring; and nose tackle Chris Baker, who said he’s recovering after spraining his right sternoclavicular joint and considers himself “day-to-day.”
Outside linebacker Trent Murphy, who tore the PCL in his right knee against Dallas and aggravated it during the game on Sunday, was limited in practice, coach Jay Gruden said.
