It’s three-and-out for former Washington Redskins tight end Clint Didier as he conceded defeat Wednesday after a close race with fellow Republican Dan Newhouse for a House seat in Washington state.
The race was one of the last races in the nation from the Nov. 4 midterm vote to be decided. Mr. Didier, a tea party favorite who lost previous races for state and federal office in the last two election cycles, surprised many and nearly defeated Mr. Newhouse, the Republican establishment favorite. Mr. Newhouse ultimately won by just over 3,000 votes.
“For two weeks, the race in Washington State’s 4th Congressional District between two Republicans … has been too close to call,” Mr. Didier said in a statement to supporters Wednesday. “However, with just a handful of votes left to count, I concede my opponent is the person who will represent you when the 114th Congress convenes in January.”
This may not be the last attempt at a political career for the former pro football star, who won two Super Bowl rings while in Washington.
Larry Stickney, Mr. Didier’s campaign manager, has hinted that another run at office could be possible. Mr. Didier also announced Wednesday he is establishing the “WA Patriots PAC” in order to help fund future conservative candidates and promote conservative causes.
