Majority Leader Harry Reid said approving the president’s attorney general nomination is not a priority for the Democrats’ remaining time in the majority.

The Nevada Democrat said Tuesday that administration staff told him that the Senate can wait until early 2015 to vote on Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s pick to replace retiring Attorney General Eric Holder.

“The White House’s intermediaries with me said ’don’t be pushing that, we can do it after the first of the year,’” Mr. Reid told reporters.

On other pending nominees, Mr. Reid said he hoped his staff could work with the Republican leader to avoid having to file cloture and hold an additional procedural vote on each individual nomination.

“If we get stalled and stalled and stalled … then we’re going to have to start filing cloture on a lot of nominees,” he said.
