Gov. Andrew Cuomo deployed the National Guard to western New York to aid residents stranded by a massive storm that dumped more than four feet of lake-effect snow in some areas.
“We are deploying the National Guard to ramp up efforts to keep western New York residents safe and to assist storm recovery efforts in any way possible,” the governor said Tuesday, a Buffalo CBS affiliate reported.
The National Guard is sending 150 soldiers and airmen, seven Bobcats, 10 dump trucks and five Humvees, according to Mr. Cuomo’s office. The soldiers and airmen were dispatched from Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Horseheads in Chemung County, the station reported.
“Travel bans and advisories remain in effect, and I urge drivers to stay off the roads so that our state agencies and the National Guard can assist those that need help,” the governor said.
