WASHINGTON (AP) - Joshua Smith scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, draining a jumper during a breakaway 8-2 run to open the second half as Georgetown put away Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 78-62 on Tuesday night.

Steals and boards helped Georgetown (2-0) snap a 34-34 halftime tie. L. J. Peak drove for a layup after a D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera steal, Jabril Trawick added a putback and a layup after a second steal by Aaron Bowen and Smith added a jumper in just 2:15. The Hoyas never trailed again.

Smith’s double-double was his first at Georgetown.

Bowen added 13 points with five of the Hoyas nine steals. Georgetown shot 50.9 percent (27 of 53) and outboarded the Islanders 39-23.

Bryce Douvier led Corpus Christi (1-1) with 16 points, John Jordan added 14 and Rashawn Thomas 12.

The first half was close with four ties, and the lead changed 12 times.
