Former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius refused to comment on MIT professor Jonathan Gruber’s remarks that the Obama administration was able to trick “stupid” Americans into supporting the law.
“You can talk to Dr. Gruber about what he said, but I don’t have a comment about his comments,” Ms. Sebelius said while Speaking at the American Academy of Actuaries, The Blaze reported Saturday.
New video footage shows one of the Affordable Care Act’s key architects, Mr. Gruber, telling an audience at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013 that “lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” and that “the stupidity of the American voter” helped Democrats pass Obamacare.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi denied having any connection with Mr. Gruber earlier in the week, although C-SPAN video shows her touting his analysis in 2009. Her website has also referenced his work on the bill.
The New York Times reported in 2012 that Mr. Gruber “helped the administration put together the basic principles of the proposal,” and was later sent to “help Congressional staff members draft the specifics.”
