Even halfway around the world, President Obama can’t escape the results of last week’s midterm elections. Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi tweaked Mr. Obama during a Friday press conference over the drubbing his party took at the polls last week.

She made the comments while urging the people of Myanmar not to get caught up in the results of their elections next year, saying it’s more important that the elections are fair, open and honest.

“Of course, any party wants to win the elections. I’m sure the president will tell you that,” she said. “I’d rather lose than win in the wrong way.”

Ms. Suu Kyi is barred from running for president because her children hold British citizenship, according to provisions in Myanmar’s constitution.

In addition to the elections, Ms. Suu Kyi also seemed to take a jab at the U.S. media after they questioned Mr. Obama on domestic issues such as immigration reform and the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

“I am sorry the president can’t get away from all those issues,” she said.
