Ukrainian troops are headed back to the nation’s eastern border due to the redeployment of Russian military personnel to the region.
U.S. General Philip Breedlove, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, said Wednesday that there was “no question” that Russia was sending supplies to separatists.
“We are repositioning our armed forces to respond to the actions of the (rebel) fighters. My main task is to prepare for military action,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said Wednesday, Reuters reported.
Russia continues to deny that its troops are operating in eastern Ukraine.
General-Major Igor Konashenkov, a Russian Defense Ministry official, said there was no truth to the notion that the Kremlin was sending in troops and weapons for a military offense, Reuters reported.
There have been roughly 4,000 deaths in the region since a so-called ceasefire was announced between the two sides Sept. 5, Reuters reported.
