House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi refused to grant an inch during discussion of the Republican sweep through Election Day, saying the GOP wins were hardly of significant proportion — that they were little more than an “ebb,” actually.
“I do not believe what happened the other night is a wave,” Ms. Pelosi said in an interview with Politico. “There was no wave of approval for the Republicans. I wish them congratulations; they won the election. But there was no wave of approval for anybody. There was an ebbing, an ebb tide, for us.”
Ms. Pelosi also confirmed that she’s not going anywhere — willingly, at least — and insisted that her fellow Democrats needed her more now than ever before, Politico reported.
“Quite frankly, if we would have won, I would have thought about leaving,” she said, the news outlet reported.
Ms. Pelosi also denied the White House under President Obama hardly suffered under a “failure of politics” that ultimately hurt campaigning Democrats, Politico said.
“I don’t think it was a failure of [Obama’s] message — it was the extent of his success,” she said. “Let’s say it in a more positive way. This president has accomplished many great things. You know there is always an October eclipse. We couldn’t catch a break.”
