Sen. Marco Rubio’s new book is scheduled for a January release as potential 2016 GOP presidential contenders jockey for positioning and weigh the timing of when to announce a decision on whether or not they’re running.
Mr. Rubio’s book, “American Dreams: Restoring Economic Opportunity for Everyone” has a Jan. 13 release date on Amazon.
In a blurb accompanying the online preview of the book, Mr. Rubio, Florida Republican, wrote of his parents’ coming to the United States from Cuba in 1956 to find a “land of opportunity,” compared to an American Dream now on “life support.”
“I wrote this book because we stand at a critical juncture,” he said in the blurb. “What kind of country are we going to be? Will we surrender to Obamacare and other laws that crush innovation and entrepreneurship? Will we accept a powerful nanny state and the erosion of family values? Will we allow politics to kill the American Dream? Or will we rise to the challenge — and take back our legacy as the only nation on earth that offers unrestricted opportunity to all?”
Mr. Rubio goes on to write that “of course no book or politician can single-handedly restore the American Dream.”
“But a movement, working to promote the values and can-do spirit that made our country exceptional, can turn everything around,” he wrote. “My goal is to provide a roadmap for that movement and inspire Americans to reclaim their rights: to dream, to work, to build a better life for their children. I hope you will join me as we build that movement and restore the land of opportunity.”
Mr. Rubio recently told a Colombian radio station he plans to make a decision on a presidential run “in the coming weeks.”
His standing among some conservatives took a hit after he voted for a 2013 comprehensive immigration bill that would grant quick legal status to most illegal immigrants currently in the country.
But he’s been back out on the hustings campaigning for candidates in the midterms — he gave an early congratulatory phone call to GOP Sen.-elect Joni Ernst of Iowa after stumping for her — and delivering speeches calling for a more muscular U.S. foreign policy ahead of a possible presidential run.
