Apple and Tim Cook are taking heat from the company’s co-founder, Steve Wozniak, over its tardiness on introducing large-screen iPhones to the market.
Mr. Wozniak said Samsung’s 24 percent share of the smartphone market wouldn’t dwarf Apple’s 12 percent if it had responded more quickly to consumers’ changing tastes.
“Apple could have had a much bigger share of the smartphone market if it had a larger-screen iPhone for the past three years,” Mr. Wozniak told CNN Money on Monday. “It could have competed better with Samsung.”
The iPhone 6 was not available until September.
Mr. Wozniak left Apple in 1987, but he continues to comment on a new products when they come out. He told CNN Money, however, that it would be difficult for him to duplicate the kind of success he had building gadgets out of his garage as a young man.
“Today, it’s really hard to hand-build tech equipment because it just keeps getting smaller and smaller. I’m not sure I would have a role in today’s tech world,” he told CNN.
