Former President George W. Bush says the danger now posed by the Islamic State terrorist group rivals the pre-9/11 threat presented by al Qaeda.
“They’re not different in the sense they’re willing to murder the innocent to advance an ideology,” he said in an interview that aired on NBC’s “Today” show. “Now we got beheadings by these thugs over there, and I’m confident they’d love to inflict great damage on the country.
“You know, al Qaeda was pretty well-funded for awhile, but, you know, they got crushed,” he continued. “ISIS needs to be defeated. I applaud the president on the goal [to] degrade and defeat, and hopefully [the] strategy will work.”
