RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Authorities accuse a Cary woman of taking more than $700,000 from a pediatric practice.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports (https://bit.ly/1kZaxmt) warrants filed at the Wake County Magistrate’s Office say 50-year-old Lori Wilkinson Pote is charged with seven counts of embezzlement.

Superior Court Judge Donald W. Stephens set bail at $2.7 million. Pote was scheduled to appear in court Friday.

According to detectives with the Raleigh Police Department, Pote is accused of embezzling more than $100,000 for each year she was employed by Carolina Kids Pediatrics Associates in Raleigh. She began at the practice in January 2007 and ended in December 2013.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said the department’s financial crimes unit launched an investigation in February after officials at the pediatrics center noticed a number of financial irregularities,
