Former Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi, found guilty of tax fraud, began the first few hours of his community service sentence to help Alzheimer’s patients on Friday.
He was ordered to serve four hours in some community service capacity per week for the next year, after facing court sentencing for tax-related crimes, The Associated Press reported. The former three-term leader arrived at the Sacra Famiglia facility via a limousine and entered without comment to the press that had gathered outside, the Guardian said.
Mr. Berlusconi said he’s been studying and researching various potential treatments for the disease so he could help patients.
Mr. Berlusconi faces a four-year sentence, but three years were suspended because of the leniency of the center-left government, the Guardian reported.
