RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Some 325,000 Southern California utility customers are urged to cut way back on water use during the weekend while a treatment plant is shut down during pipeline repairs.
The Metropolitan Water District said Friday that the Henry J. Mills Treatment Plant in Riverside will be closed from 2 p.m. Friday through Sunday evening.
During that time customers in the Riverside County cities of Perris, Moreno Valley and portions of Riverside and nearby communities will be served with water already in area reservoirs.
Residential and commercial customers are being asked to suspend all outdoor use - including lawn watering and car washing - and all non-essential indoor use.
Crews will repair a leaking valve along the Santa Ana Valley Pipeline, which delivers Northern California water to the Mills plant.
