PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation is warning of major backups this weekend due to a closure of Interstate 10 in downtown Phoenix because of a power line project.

ADOT says I-10 will be closed from early Saturday morning to late Sunday night between two separate junctions with Interstate 17.

One end of the closure is at the “Split” junction east of downtown and near Sky Harbor International Airport. The other is the “Stack” junction west of downtown.

ADOT says the closure is needed to allow crews to safely remove old power lines and replace the lines with new ones.

I-10 traffic approaching either end of the closure will be detoured onto I-17 south and west of downtown Phoenix.
