OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma appeals court has upheld the life prison sentence of a 34-year-old man who was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend.
The Court of Criminal Appeals returned the decision in the case of Noel Montes Sosa. A jury in Oklahoma County convicted Sosa in connection with the July 2011 death of 21-year-old Sarita Aguilar. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Police say they received an early-morning emergency call about a disturbance at a northwest Oklahoma City residence on the day the victim was killed. Investigators found Aguilar’s body with trauma consistent with a homicide.
Sosa’s defense attorney, Paul Clark of the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office, did not immediately return a telephone call Friday seeking comment.
