The Redskins selected Virginia offensive lineman Morgan Moses with the 66th overall pick in the NFL Draft on Friday night.
Moses, 6-foot-6 and 314 pounds, started all 12 games at left tackle for the Cavaliers in 2013 and 11 more in 2012. Washington is already set at that position with Trent Williams so a move to right tackle is in order.
The Redskins haven’t drafted a player from Virginia since 1986. Moses is from Richmond and played at Meadowbrook High. He spent one prep season at Fork Union Military Academy before attending Virginia. His last experience at right tackle was in 2011 when he started all 13 games.
Moses has the size to excel at the NFL level, according to a scouting report on NFL.com. But he also isn’t the most explosive player, which hurts when trying to recover against defenders. His weight has also fluctuated during his college career. Moses didn’t lift weights at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis because of a left shoulder injury, but said on Friday that his shoulder is “100 percent.”
“It’s a great fit,” Moses said. “Being along side of a Pro Bowl tackle in Trent Williams and being able to block for [quarterback Robert Griffin III] is a blessing to have that.”
