NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A baby-sitter charged in the death of a 4-year-old girl has had her bail raised to $500,000.
Sakita Covington was arraigned Friday in state Superior Court in Essex County. She had previously been held on $50,000 bail.
The 38=year-old was charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment after a 4-year-old girl died hours after being found unattended in a Newark apartment with three other children.
The cause and manner of Naira Bennett’s death are pending an autopsy.
The Star-Ledger of Newark (https://bit.ly/1sbwTVD) reports Covington appeared via video camera at Friday’s arraignment and pleaded not guilty.
