SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Police say the man struck several times in a late-night shooting on a Springfield street is a known gang member who has so far refused to cooperate with investigators.

Police responding to ShotSpotter activation just before midnight Thursday found the 23-year-old victim shot four times on Central Street. His injuries were to his buttocks and thighs.

The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center for surgery in critical conditions, but is expected to survive.

His name was not immediately made public.

Police say he refused to provide any information officers except for his name and birth date.

There was no word any suspects or a motive early Friday.
