WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man has been convicted for his part in a fatal convenience store robbery.

A Palm Beach County jury found 28-year-old Keith Byrd guilty Thursday of first-degree murder. He faces a mandatory life sentence at a hearing next week.

Authorities say Byrd and another man, James Pinkney, robbed a Lake Worth convenience story in 2009. Part-time clerk Miguel Gonzalez-Huicochea was shot during the robbery.

The Palm Beach Post (https://goo.gl/EojrAQ ) reports that Byrd told detectives after his arrest that he didn’t know Pinkney had a gun.

Defense attorneys claimed Byrd participated in another robbery with Pinkney the same day as the shooting but wasn’t present for the fatal robbery.
